"Of course the Shhhh! Moniker is designed to rile as much as placate, a statement of irritation as much as intent. Tellingly, though, the mere fact it's the 'catchphrase' of librarians worldwide allows us, the impartial listener, a far more satisfying connection between both the phrase and the 'concept'. If anything it's not about ensuring an elitist few maintain their 'spots' in ever diminishing circles, more about ensuring some very exciting music gets heard by thirsty ears seeking those further sonic delights we know are out there but can't quite seem to locate. Instead of decomposing in antiquated crates, racks and shacks Shhhh! is all about the reincarnation of dusty old gems and breathing new life back into long forgotten nuggets which clearly need to be heard. If one single artist gains further recognition from these mixes then they've served their purpose, because after all, it's all about the music, innit? When an English record shop feels the pressure of demand for a tune due to a Radio show in Belgrade playing it, one can't doubt the inspirational power held within vinyl's dusty grooves and the kinetic latent magic of music.
'Well you see we're archaeologists of sound, we're geophysically preserving it down.'
The image of bookish young men in bone rimmed 50's spectacles holding nicotine stained fingers up to pursed lips whilst uttering those calming baby soothing consonants but with Ginsberg's howl of intent are conjured up immediately. Imagine Nathan Followill in a Dallas book depository shelving library vinyl with a certain sardonic wit and glee, whilst offering the viewer a knowing blunt dazed wink through a fug of Creedence endorsed weed smoke. It was the drummer in the depository with the vinyl what did it! Oswald can jog right on."
